Lake Studios Berlin [June 27, 2019]
Choreography + Performance by Pauline Jennings and Joshua Lacourse
Lighting Design: Allen Hahn
“Eine, Zwei, Funf und Sechs” was an audience-interactive duet, co-choreographed and performed by Jennings and Lacourse while in residence at Lake Studios Berlin, Germany. Premiering June 27, 2019, the 40-minute duet offered a joyful reprieve from the demands and concerns of daily life by inviting strangers of all ages to work together and take turns rolling four over-sized dice in an energetic act of co-creation. In a constant ebb and flow between autonomy and cooperation, each performer responded to the dice through a predetermined set of individual and shared rules. While the movement phrases and rules were established ahead of time, the performance emerged based upon audience input. In a world where dance is often consumed passively and responsive interfaces typically involve technology, “Eine, Zwei, Funf und Sechs” offered audiences a glimpse into the creative process while encouraging playful collaboration amongst friends and strangers alike.
