Random Site Series

Through a hybrid art form, movement poetry, The Random Site Series experiments with photography and site-specific movement to prompt the question: How does one year feel? Through personal reflection and a fierce dive into familiar landscapes including self, home, and surrounding geography, I challenge myself and viewers alike to consider pursuing adventure, practicing curiosity and making discoveries within the seemingly mundane.

As a performing artist, and like many others, I have experienced ongoing grief at the loss of connection, certainty, and community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. I imagined the Random Site Series as a way to continue sharing stories and connecting to others through this hybrid self-portraiture format. Rather than using video or writing, I have attempted to
capture brief movement stories exploring feelings of isolation, anxiety, hope, rage, sorrow, joy, wonder, and play. Each movement poem keenly examines a site’s form, function, and aesthetics through my relationship with it. After such an extended period of isolation related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the work asks: how does one find adventure within the
daily grind?
