Wet Canvas: Works by Pauline Jennings & Joshua Lacourse
Pauline Jennings (VT) and Joshua Lacourse (NH) have been co-choreographing and performing in duets rooted in joy and fueled by a drive to unite individuals since 2018. Anchored in love and compelled by a deep desire for acceptance and trust, they confront their own vulnerabilities and fears head-on as they aspire to share moments of unabashed beauty and wonder. Together, they co-founded Wet Canvas, a fledgling venture aimed at broadening audiences and connecting communities through free, accessible and inclusive performances in Burlington, VT and beyond.
Their first project was a full-evening duet, “Sea Inside Our Skin,” presented by the Vermont Performance Lab’s SEED program (July 2018) and Burlington City Art’s Project VT (Nov 2018). Next, “Skiers” was a dance for camera work exhibited as part of “neighboring|towns” at the Hamiltonian Gallery in Washington, DC (May-June, 2019). Jennings co-directed “neighboring|towns” and was awarded a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant for the exhibit. Most recently, Jennings and Lacourse were awarded a month-long residency at Lake Studios Berlin where they developed and premiered a duet for stage “13 Minutes of Nothing (Give or Take),” as well as, a full-evening, audience-interactive work “Eine, Zwei, Funf, und Sechs.”

Current Work
Jennings and Lacourse are currently developing Two Chairs, a contemporary dance duet seeking to spark the fire of connection and blaze the trail of shared humanity between pairs of sentient beings. As two bodies scream, cry, clutch and console, viewers will be invited to witness Jennings and Lacourse diligently working to understand each other in a formidable act of endurance and benevolence. Moored in a realm between bliss, outrage, curiosity and trust, the duet will voyage through a necessary ritual of human trial and perseverance.
